What is SIP/ IP Trunking?

SIP is a technology that is used on a IP Network to control multiple real time applications like voice, video and messaging.

How does it work?

Alone, one SIP device will send out an invitation to another known device within the network. The recipient device usually responds with an “ok” to accept the invitation. Thus, once the relationship is established, client’s can start communicating .

What is SIP it used for?

SIP or IP Trunking is used in conjunction with a SIP based IP PBX (Grandstream, Cisco, Avaya, Mitel, etc.) . Typically larger businesses that have their own Data Centers, IP PBX, and IT personnel opt for IP Trunking verses a Hosted VOIP .

Some businesses are still using digital and analog services and haven’t quite made the leap to IP trunking. For all those antiquated systems that are left, IP trunking can be delivered as DSS, PRI or analog using additional equipment.
